On Monday morning
9th February, as we were all coming to terms with the horrific events
in Victoria over the weekend, our office was contacted by a number of real
estate agents throughout Sydney asking us for advice about raising money for the
Victorian Bushfire Appeal. This included comments and discussion from
people who were attending training at both our Castle Hill and our city
offices. It was heart wrenching that amongst our course participants,
there was one young professional who has lost close family members in the
fires.
Following on from
discussions a few weeks ago with a prominent real estate salesperson in Castle
Hill about how the real estate industry can give something back to the
community, the team at Leverage agreed that it would be timely to seek donations
from the real estate community for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
This morning we have
contacted the Red Cross who have advised that any monies collected through this
process, can receive receipts once we forward all funds to them. The
raising of funds at this time is for a cause that demands our urgent
attention. We, as an industry must not leave this cause to others we all
need to do our part in providing assistance. Even during these difficult
economic times, the donations of monies is small in comparison with the
suffering that is currently, and will continue to affect the bushfire
victims.
The two (2) step process for
making a donation on behalf of the real estate community
is:

include the amount of your donation, your full name, address and the name in
which you would like a receipt to be issued. Please note that receipts
will not be issued by Red Cross until we transfer all monies through to their
account. We envisage that this will occur by the end of February
2009.
